Broward County Upcoming Events

There's always something for everyone when it comes to Broward county Florida local events. Not only are there tons of the standard restaurants, shops, nightlife, and urban entertainment, but there are plenty of pristine, preserved natural areas around Broward county as well. And nothing beats being minutes away from hundreds of acres of beautiful, untouched Florida landscape.
With the summer bearing down upon us most of the kids have either already finished school for the foreseeable future, or are about to complete the year. Fortunately, if you are a resident of the Broward county Florida area, there is no shortage of entertainment opportunities to keep the kids busy this summer. A fun, but brief summer camp program at the Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek, Florida seems a promising prospect to not only keep the kids entertained, but to expand their knowledge and perspective.
Fern Forest Nature Center is approximately 247 acres of "Designated Urban Wilderness Area" in Coconut Creek, Florida. This preserve derives its name from the large concentration of fern plants that grow within its hammocks, swamplands, and pine forest; "The last remaining stronghold of ferns in southeastern Florida". More than just the congregation of native fern plants attract Florida researchers, this preserve has a few winding trails that take you through natural Florida landscape such as swamp, hammocks, and pinelands. The Fern Forest Nature Center is also a Coconut Creek community hub with tons of events, pavilions, a picnic area, and an amphitheater.
Before kicking of its summer camp week for children ages 8-11 years, the Fern Center has a minor, hour-long event for "tots" ages 2-4 years. Includes story time, songs, arts and crafts, and is punctuated with a nature walk. This event occurs once each month, and is themed according to which month it is.
The Nature Detectives program runs from June 17th to the 21st with varying topics by day, and are subject to change based upon the weather. The sessions are only three hours long from 9:00 a.m. until noon each day.
There is not too much natural Florida landscape being preserved with rapid development. The Fern Forest Nature Center Preserve is one of the last places in Broward county with unobstructed natural Florida wilderness, and right in the heart of beautiful Coconut Creek, Florida. For any Coconut Creek, Florida residents looking to keep the kids entertained this summer, here is your golden opportunity. And for those looking to make Coconut Creek, Florida their next hometown, but would like to still remain close to nature, keep this preserve in mind when daunted with sifting through some of the suburban sprawl.
